Searching for Europe

A new refugee route going from Belarus through Eastern Europe started evolving in the beginning of the summer 2021. The EU is blaming Alexander Lukasjenko from Belarus, who is called Europe’s last dictator. They claim that he has planned this hybrid attack towards europe as a response to the many sanctions Belarus is subject to, while he states they are tourists. Lithuania is trying to put up a fence around Europe's external eastern border with help from the rest of EU. In November Lithuania found it necessary to declare a state of emergency due to the new influx of refugees. The state of emergency meant restricting access to the border for journalists as well as activists who are trying to help the many immigrants with humanitarian aid. Meanwhile a Lithuanian right-wing group called 4x4 have been given unique permission to chase refugees in the border areas that are closed to the public.
